King of Kings 3 — Upgrades

Enhancing with Mithril

It is possible to significantly enhance your equipment using a rare item known as mithril. The equipment gains a star for each degree of enhancement it receives. Weapons and shields with a certain number of stars will also receive an appearance effect.

Up to four mithril can be invested in each attempt. The likeliness of success depends on how much mithril is invested and how many start the piece of equipment already has. If the upgrade fails, a star could be lost. If the piece of equipment has more than seven stars, all stars could be lost. The likelihood of success can be increased temporarily using Lucky Stones.

Enhancing using Bright Stars

Using mithril, you can enhance your equipment to be of a very good quality. If you wish to enhance it more and want an item of extraordinary quality, you will need Star Shards. The likelihood of success is very low, but the item will fall back to 12 stars only in the event of failure. Furthermore the star shard will be consumed.

Setting

You can also customise your character's equipment by setting gemstones with special magical powers into it. To do so, you will need the magic metal Artemis in order to make a setting for the gemstone in your piece of equipment. Up to five settings are allowed in each piece of equipment, and the more settings there are, the more pure the Artemis needs to be. You can then set gems, which you can acquire during the course of the game from monster drops or by having them cut in a workshop, into these settings.

Gems

King

Yellow: Enhances one of your character's attributes

King

Purple: Chance for a bonus effect when attacking (poison, paralysis, etc.)

King

Blue: Resistance to an enemy bonus effect

King

White: Add elemental damage or resistance to elemental damage

The power of a gem will eventually be used up and the gem will disappear. When this happens, new gems can be set. Different combinations of the different colour gems in one piece of equipment will result in different effects.

Pandora Exchanger

The Pandora Exchangers in Skarabare (106, 181) and Red Stone Town (218, 140) offer a great variety of items for exchange. Talk to a Pandora Exchanger to trade multiple tributes for Experience Point tools such as Dainia’s Blessing and Tyam’s Tribute. Trade several lower level Refining Potion Vouchers for a higher level one or trade 10 Holy Stone Fragments for 1 Tiny Holy Stone which increases the level of your item by 10. Furthermore, as always, you can trade 100 Dragon Crystal Shards for 1 Dragon Apotheosis Crystal to strengthen your character with a highly increased attribute.

“Moon Goddess” brings another three options to this NPC. Trade lower level Gem Vouchers for higher level versions and further improve your equipment. In addition to that you can hand in Element Shards to create powerful Element Damage Stones which will increase your already powerful element damage even more. Last but not least, you can trade 50 Purple Stone Shards for a God Wish.

Purple up your items!

This entirely new feature has been added with the latest expansion “Moon Goddess”. It allows you to upgrade your green items to purple. All you need are a class specific item which can be found in the new dungeons as well as a God Wish. Once you have both items, talk to Ruben Daedalus (71,236) in the City of Memories and he’ll do it for you. The new purple item will have the same resonance bonuses and gods but increased attributes and bonuses which can also be slightly altered.
